Parallel will be in Winnipeg from September 11-13, 2025 (in-person and virtual) for a workshop and meeting about our SSHRC-funded project. The focus of the gathering is to find out what YOU would like to see on the website and database that we are building as part of this project as well as what you want to see in a book on the history of artist-run centres, and the archival needs of the artist-run centre community. Parallel: The History and Archives of Artist-Run Centres in Canada is 5-year SSHRC-funded project co-led by Devon Smither (University of Lethbridge) and Amber Berson (Concordia University). The project aims to document the history and support the archiving of artist-run centre histories across Canada. Devon is also planning to curate an exhibition about the history of ARCs on the Prairies. I am helping with some preliminary research and am reaching out to ask about the status of your institution’s archives. Are they digitized at all? Have your archives been deposited with an institutional archive? Have you produced any publications about the history or anniversaries of your ARC?
